five months

fivemonths

Today’s post is a little shout out to the man who resides behind the scenes of all you see here. The man who cheers me on through all my crazy dreams…and endures all my crazy. The man who works his tush off to provide for our little party of two and the man who makes me giggle so hard I might have finally developed one little ab. : )  Happy five months, my love, and here’s to another month of doing life with my best friend.

rediscovering Kansas City

Consider yourself warned : You will only like today’s post if you’re into some sweet KC architecture and you’ve totally been digging the sky’s fake-looking clouds as much as I have been lately.

IMG_1678One of the best parts about these past 5 months has been finding new beauty in something that has always felt so familiar to me.  I guess when I was in high school I didn’t spend a ton of time in the heart of Kansas City where all of the arts and culture reside.  Nowadays I’ll make the trek between the downtown areas and the Northland seven days a week…and I can’t say that I mind it one bit. It’s been so neat to see my hometown from a new set of eyes…these little eyes of mine that have been living elsewhere for the past three years and exploring an entirely different part of the country.

IMG_1919IMG_6989 copy IMG_1928IMG_1686IMG_1936IMG_6982 IMG_6991 copyIMG_6984IMG_1932 IMG_6993I used to fight coming back home, thinking that if I came back to what I had once known I was giving up my ambitious dreams and just settling.I have found this to be quite the opposite.  Moving back here has challenged me and in this journey I have grown in ways I didn’t imagine.

Prior to getting married, I took part in many (heated) conversations about where to live with my now husband. He was already established with a career and following dreams of his own. After much debate, I came to the conclusion that I would rather be with the person that I loved than in the place that I loved.  This was a hard choice for me for a while, but I have fallen in love with this city once again and know it’s where we’re supposed to be.  Prayers have been answered, friends have been made and my dreams are even falling right into place here in this city.

MRS Weekend in Review

I don’t feel like “weekend” is the most appropriate title for this past Saturday/Sunday…usually “weekend” signifies a break and that is definitely not what I had on my plate this time around!

pennants

This weekend I:

-Helped celebrate the marriage of a dear family friend as well as the joining together of their new blended family.

-Joined with friends for a casual evening glass of vino at a favorite local spot.

-Got to enjoy a couple sweet moments of R&R while doing a final review of some client documents.

-Coordinated a beautiful ballroom wedding at a landmark Kansas City hotel with gobs and gobs of beautiful arrangements that just felt like summer!

-Finally saw my hubby, BRS, for a quick hour when we met at church Sunday morning. (Crazy work schedules, y’all!)

-Held a baby. Ever in a bad mood?  Just find a baby to hold and the world seems brighter.

-Read this awesome article about nixing those feelings of competition and comparison among females.

-Hung out with some of my favorite KC vendors and made some new friends at the Bella Sposa event. ( A blog post on the awesome time we had coming this week!)

-Did a happy dance after seeing this awesome banner in honor of my dad.

Phew! I’m counting down the hours til this evening when I can sit on my rear and do nothing but eat pizza, drink wine and watch the Bachelorette (yes, I also share this guilty pleasure).

you’ve gotta be there : Bella Sposa Vintage Inspired Bridal Show

Well, these next 72 hours look to be pretty busy as I depart from my role as “corporate event planner” and enter into my typical weekend role as “the wedding planner”.

This afternoon I’ve got an intimate ceremony that I was called on just a short ten days ago. (Whirlwind, y’all! But it can be done!) From there I will leave to head down to the beautiful Country Club Plaza to run a client’s rehearsal as they prepare to exchange nuptials here on Saturday evening.

One of my favorite things about planning and coordinating is that no two brides (or their weddings) are ever the same. It’s always a new and exciting adventure from one weekend to the next and that is a huge part of what fuels my passion for this business. I have so many different tastes I tend to favor myself, so it’s fun to jump from one style of celebration to the another depending on each bride’s desire for her day.

This Sunday, June 2nd, I get to explore the tastes of brides who choose to go the “vintage route” as I attend the Bella Sposa Vintage Inspired Bridal Fashion Show event held at one of my very favorite shops, Bella Patina.

I will be doing some social media coordination, capturing the action and reporting the exciting finds through my IG feed and @bella_patinakc which you can follow here and here. I will also be present on behalf of Soiree Event Designs and able to answer any questions for those who might be interested in learning more about the process of hiring our coordination services.

If you’re down in the West Bottoms Sunday 11am-4pm, be sure to stop in and take part in this awesome event! It is sure to be filled with everything to make a vintage bride’s dreams come true! See a list of vendors participating below! You can get your tickets here for $8 today.
